Backtalk!

Ladies and gentlemen, please join us for a Night Out at the Medical Center to hear some “backtalk” … but not the kind you warned your children about.

Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Dr. John Nordt will discuss the many aspects of back problems, disorders and surgical interventions on Thursday, March 29, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Dr. Nordt is the recent past chairman of the Florida Orthopaedic Society, which champions the interests of musculoskeletal patients and orthopedic surgeons across Florida. During his career that spans four decades, he has become well-known for treating the most challenging cases and returning patients to pain-free lives. Dr. Nordt is also a Visiting Specialist at the Medical Center.

“Pain is a symptom; it is not a diagnosis,” Dr. Nordt said. “I use the analogy that if a car doesn’t start, you don’t just go change the battery. You find out what’s wrong.”

Back disorders, dysfunctions and diseases constitute a long list of related problems. A few of the more typical back problems involve herniated or bulging discs, sciatica, spinal nerve compression and muscle spasms. Sleeping positions can also contribute to existing back pain, and as there is no “one size fits all” sleeping position, experimenting with strategically placed pillows or using other methods to achieve a comfortable position can result in restful sleep.

This Night Out event is open to all; please RSVP to 305-367-6777 if you plan to attend. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will follow the presentation, where you also will have the opportunity to speak with Dr. Nordt. We look forward to seeing you there!
