Ladies and Men, please join us at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, for an informative evening discussion about Arthritis presented by Michael Swartzon, M.D. Dr. Swartzon's presentation, titled "Arthritis: An Uphill Journey," will be held in the Medical Center lobby and followed by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. It is our second and final Night Out at the Medical Center for the 2020 season.

He has a dual board certification in Family and Sports Medicine, which gives him a uniquely rounded clinical view when treating his patients. The Arthritis Foundation describes two of the most common ailments that can cause chronic joint pain:
Osteoarthritis - The most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis happens over time as the protective lining (cartilage) at the ends of the bones where they meet to form joints wears away. The cartilage breakdown causes the bones to rub against each other. This may result in pain, stiffness, the loss of movement and the formation of bony overgrowths (spurs). Pain from hip OA is often felt in the groin area and front of the thigh. Stiffness may be worst after periods of inactivity.
Bursitis - Bursae are fluid-filled sacs that reduce friction and cushion the areas between bones, tendons and muscles. They are found in hips and other parts of the body. When these soft tissues become inflamed, they cause pain in the affected area. The condition is called bursitis. Injury or overuses of bursae are common causes of bursitis.
If you are one of the many millions who has chronic pain from arthritis or other types of joint pain, Dr. Swartzon's informative presentation will give you the latest information on Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), stem cell therapy and nonsurgical treatment for acute and overused musculoskeletal problems.
