Podiatrist Joins Visiting Specialists Program
Board-certified Podiatrist Pedro Abrantes, D.P.M., has joined the Medical Center’s expansive Visiting Specialists program. He specializes in treatment of the lower leg, foot and ankle; treating disorders of pain, fractures and injuries; and restoring function.
Dr. Abrantes attended Barry University School of Graduate Medical Sciences and received his advanced training residency at South Miami Hospital – Baptist Health. He serves as Chief of Podiatry at South Miami Hospital and is Adjunct Professor at the Podiatric Medical School at Barry University in Miami Shores.
Composed of 26 bones connected by many joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments, the foot is one of the most complex parts of the body. Proper foot care is important during aging as it can affect balance and gait, contributing to falls in the elderly. Proper foot care is especially critical for diabetic patients who may suffer from decreased circulation in the lower legs.
Dr. Abrantes will be seeing patients at the Center seeing patients on Jan. 7, Feb. 4 and Feb. 25. Appointments can be made here or by calling Pam Zimmerman at 305-367-6702.
