The Medical Center is pleased to announce our newest addition to the Visiting Specialists program: Antony Farias, M.D., with Nephrology Associates of South Miami.
Nephrology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the kidney. Kidneys are the body’s multitaskers. They clean your blood and play other everyday vital roles, including:
- Releasing hormones to help regulate blood pressure
- Controlling sodium and fluid levels in your body
- Stimulating production of red blood cells which carry oxygen throughout the body
- Creating Vitamin D to help your body absorb calcium
Dr. Farias earned his medical degree at St. George’s University in Granada in the West Indies. He completed his advanced training and residency at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital and University of Hospital of Columbia University, both in New York City. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
He has a special interest in critical care nephrology, hypertension and chronic kidney diseases. He is the Medical Director of the Dialysis Unit at Fresenius Kidney Center of Perrine and Co-Chair of the Renal Task Force Committee at Baptist Health South Florida. He is a member of the South Miami Hospital Critical Care Committee. He is affiliated with the Baptist Health South Florida area hospitals including South Miami, Homestead, West Kendall and Miami.
