This summer the Medical Center was again inspected by AAAHC (Ambulatory Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care). This is a very thorough inspection conducted by independent surveyors in the health care field.
Some key areas under scrutiny by the surveyors include protocols, safety, documentation, cleanliness, involvement of management and governance, staff training, clinical records, medication tracking, risk assessment on various levels and patient satisfaction.
Keith Young, CEO, states: “This certification is in keeping with the Center’s goal of providing excellent care to members and best practices to the Ocean Reef community. This is always a big accomplishment, and a huge thank you goes out to all the involved staff members for the successful survey.”
The Medical Center employs a professional risk management firm and consultant Brenda K. Johnson explains the level of detail involved in risk management oversight:

“Important functions of a risk management program include the development of policies and procedures for all services provided. These are based upon existing evidence -based standards, legal references, best practices, licensure requirements and accreditation standards. All policies and procedures are reviewed and/or updated annually.
The Center has established a matrix of surveillance that is completed daily, weekly, and monthly and on an annual basis. Included in these efforts are ongoing staff education and emergency drills for all types of potential events.
A minimum of two quality studies related to patient care are in process annually. Staff are also involved in identification of any areas requiring study, collecting data, and assisting with staff education efforts.”
Additional accreditation the Medical Center has achieved are through the American College of Radiology and the Society of Environmentally Responsible Facilities.
