Lecture Series: Prostate Cancer

The Medical Center’s 2022 Lecture Series kicks off with an exploration of the latest advancements in prostate cancer science with the University of Miami Health System’s Dr. Dipen J. Parekh. Dr. Parekh will deliver his lecture, entitled Prostate Cancer, at 5 p.m.. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Cultural Center Theatre.

Dr. Parekh is UM Health System’s Chief Operating Officer, Professor and Chairman of the Urology Department at UM’s Miller School of Medicine, Director of Robotic Surgery and Victor Politano Endowed Chair in Urology.

He is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Male Urologist specializing in urologic oncology using minimally invasive laparoscopic, robotic and traditional open approaches to treat prostate, bladder and kidney cancer. He has performed more than 5,000 robotic urologic procedures at a renowned urology center and has started several robotic surgery centers and programs of excellence both nationally and internationally.

As part of his research interests, Dr. Parekh has been an active investigator in urologic oncology for the past 10 years, predominantly in clinical trials and in translational research with a focus on prevention, detection and treatment of genitourinary malignancies — which are malignancies related to the genital and urinary organs. He has authored several scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters, and has served as an assistant editor for the Journal of Urology.
