Clinical Interests
Michael Swartzon, M.D., specializes in primary care sports medicine. He is a physician with significant training in treatment and prevention of both medical illness and orthopedic injury. He provides non-surgical treatments for acute and overuse musculoskeletal problems to minimize time away from sports, school or work. Dr. Swartzon also treats chronic problems such as osteoarthritis to help minimize disability and maximize function. He cares for competitive athletes as well as “weekend warriors” and non-athletes. He guides referrals to physical and occupational therapy, performs various injections when appropriate, and expedites referrals to an orthopedic surgeon if necessary. He has published in several medical journals and presented at national conferences on various sports medicine research topics.
Dr. Swartzon currently serves as a team physician for the Miami Dolphins. He formerly served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Exercise & Sports Sciences at the Florida Atlantic University and in the Department of Biological Sciences at Broward College. As a sports medicine fellow, Dr. Swartzon worked as a team physician for the University of New Mexico Lobos basketball team. He has provided on-site medical care for the Paradise Jam basketball tournament, Mountain West conference championship, NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the New Mexico state rodeo and the USA Track and Field Indoor Championship. Academically, he is director of the sports medicine curriculum for family medicine at Florida International University and a volunteer faculty for family medicine at University of Miami. Currently, he provides medical care for Miami-Dade County public high school sports programs, the Miami Open tennis and the PGA Cadillac Championship event.
Dr. Swartzon is a Miami native and an avid fan of our local sports teams.
