Lecture Series: Insights in Cancer Treatment

Please join us at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Cultural Center Theatre with speaker Minesh P. Mehta, M.D., FASTRO*, for a presentation on advances in cancer treatment titled, “Empowered by Patients: Insights in Cancer Treatment.”
Dr. Mehta is the Deputy Director and Chief of Radiation Oncology, John and Mary Lou Dasburg Endowed, Chair in Radiation Oncology at Miami Cancer Center, Baptist Health South Florida. He is a renowned expert in radiation oncology, proton therapy and cancer research.
Under Dr. Mehta, Miami Cancer Institute became South Florida’s first proton therapy program, which today is the most experienced in the region. The Institute also was the first center in the United States to pair the latest-generation proton delivery platform with pencil beam scanning, which delivers more precise treatments that improve outcomes and reduce side effects.
A caring and dedicated physician, Dr. Mehta shares the following thoughts: “Without empathy there is no way to relate to the patient, and if you cannot relate to the patient then you cannot understand what the patient is going through, and if you don’t understand what the patient is going through it’s very hard to meet the needs and the requirements. As a consequence, I have found in my experience that the most successful oncologists are not only the ones who are the most brilliant, but they are the ones who are most brilliant and bring a bucket full of empathy to the table with them.”
Please join us after the lecture for a cocktail reception and to meet Dr. Mehta. The Medical Center thanks Baptist Health South Florida for sponsoring this informative lecture. Visit the Lecture Series page for more information about this and other lectures of the 2025 season.
