Raising Awareness: The ChoosePT Initiative

October is Physical Therapy Month!

National Physical Therapy Month is celebrated each October by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). APTA created the observance to recognize the impact physical therapists and their assistants make in restoring and improving motion in people’s lives.

APTA is working to raise awareness about the benefits of physical therapy to treat chronic pain, thereby reducing the need for pain medications. The association has developed a website called ChoosePT for this purpose.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Emergency departments treat 3 million older adults for falls each year.” Physical therapists can help to measure and improve balance, and identify the functional and strength limitations that can contribute to falls.

Pain is personal, but treating pain takes teamwork. The Medical Center’s excellent team of physical therapists can work with you to reduce your pain and accomplish your therapy goals. We look forward to helping you reach your therapy goals this year!
