We Have a Physiatrist! (What’s a Physiatrist?)

Dr. Tolchin

The Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of board-certified physiatrist, Ronald Tolchin, D.O., to our Visiting Specialists program. A physiatrist (pronounced fi-zahy-uh-trist) specializes in spine care and physical medicine.

Dr. Tolchin specializes in all spine-related disorders, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, rheumatologic and soft tissue disorders, scoliosis and osteopathic medicine. He received his Bachelor’s degree at Villanova University in Philadelphia and his medical education at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Tolchin is the Medical Director of Baptist Health South Florida’s Center for Spine Care and has been voted one of the Best Doctors in America since 2007.

Why should you see a physiatrist?

According to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, “Having a physiatrist guide your musculoskeletal (spine and sports) pain care is akin to having a primary care physician who also specializes in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions. Physiatrists not only have a keen understanding of how the body works and the medical issues at play, but also understand how these medical issues can affect a patient’s mobility, mood and quality of life. Through their breadth of training physiatrists aim to rehabilitate the whole person, addressing their physical, emotional, medical and vocational needs.”

Dr. Tolchin will begin seeing patients at the Medical Center on Feb. 15. Click here to make an appointment. Dr. Tolchin will be giving an in-depth presentation about Physiatry and its benefits at a Night Out at the Medical Center on the evening of Feb. 5. Coming for lab work? The Medical Center’s laboratory and imaging area has a dedicated entrance with parking at the rear of the building. This provides easier access for our patients and eliminates the need to walk through the building to reach the lab area.
